11/1/2016 - EP Release this week! Plus an In-depth Review and Radio Play!

We are so excited to share these tracks with you!

Come celebrate our EP release in Kansas City this Thursday at The Brick and pick up a copy fresh off the press. Songwriter Grady Keller, who opens the show, will join us on banjo along with upright bassist extraordinaire Johnny Hamil. We'll be debuting a couple new songs and St. Louis band Spectator will close out the evening and have you dreaming your way to bed at a decent hour. Need more incentive? Check out this lovely review of our album from KCUR's Mike Warren here. If you can't make the show, you're still in luck! You can can download the album or order a physical copy shipped to your door here

Many thanks to the fine folks at our community radio stations 90.1FM KKFI, 90.9 The Bridge, 91.5 KANU and 89.3 KCUR. Between the spins and reviews, we are feeling the local love big time. Right back atcha.

10/17/2016 - Shapiro Bros Debut EP Release in Kansas City!

On November 3rd, the Bros will celebrate a hometown release of our brand new self-titled, 8-song EP at The Brick Bar in KCMO. Our good friend and fellow songwriter Grady Keller from Old Sound will open the show followed by the magical dream pop duo Spectator from St. Louis. It's an early dinner show for the whole family and starts at 7pm. Can't wait to hear the new tracks? We've got just the thing for you! Mikal put together a video for our song "Almost Ready," a sweet little co-write about domestic life. She found some footage from a 60s "nudie cutie" in the public domain and thought it would compliment our hokey folky love fest perfectly. Let us know what you think!

9/19/2016 - On the Road Again

Fresh off the Walnut Valley Bluegrass Festival Stage 5 circuit, the Shapiro Brothers are ready to rock and banjo roll our way toward the east coast.

(Minus the banjo.) (No offense to banjo players, of course. We love you!!)

We will don our classic wares -- the Mossman and Silvertone -- along with our latest addition of t-shirts, stickers and... drumroll, please... our first Shapiro Brothers 8 song EP! Featuring a spread of waltzes, ballads, bluegrass and lullabyes, our self-titled EP captures the Bros. like a postcard from the road -- sentimental, well-traveled and temporal.

The garden continues with beans and berries. Fall plantings are stretching their new leaves and almost all of Summer's tomatoes are in our belly. Now, we're ready for some apples... like the Big Apple! Please tell your New England folks we're headed their way. This is the first time we've headed east and we'd love to make some new friends. We have gigs in Manhattan and Brooklyn.

On our return, we'll be stopping in Columbus, Ohio to play a Chocolate Party reunion show with Chicago Farmer and Eric Nassau. If you've never been to Columbus, it's one of our favorite cities; known for it's laid back midwest charms and extravagant chocolate parties. If you've never heard of these acts, you're missing out on the goods! Do yourself a favor and check out their links.

You can also catch the Bros. in Iowa City, Chicago, Cleveland, Pennsylvania and St. Louis. Full tour details are on the website and Facebook page. You can also follow Mikal on the Instagrams.

We'll do our best to do our best. Sure appreciate all your support to keep this train a-rolling. xo, Shapiro Bros

8/22/2016 - Fall Shows

We're in the final days of summer and Shapiro Bros are making the most of it with a hearty harvest of peppers, tomatoes, kale the size of palm trees and music... Lots of delicious music.

Finishing up this week at Element Recording Studio with engineer Joel Nanos, our very first EP as a duo is bound for release sometime this Fall. We haven't settled on an album title yet ("Almost Ready?") but we're crossing our fingers that it's in hand for the Walnut Valley Bluegrass Festival in Winfield, Kansas mid-September. Rumors have it, we'll be haunting the Pecan Grove Campground and maybe hitting up Stage 5 and 7 for a set or two. After Bluegrass, we're off on our Northeast Tour through Pennsylvania, New York and Connecticut but before that--a fun run down to the Ozarks to play Lindberg's in Springfield, Missouri with the amazing Creek Rocks. Have you heard of them? They're top notch and great folks to boot.

Hope we didn't lose you in the S Bros bee-line. You can find our updated tour dates here on our website and also our Facebook music page. Or you can follow Mikal's tour photos on Instagram here. Better yet, sign up for our newsletter and you'll get your updates delivered. If you'd like to catch one of our other projects, check out Chad's acoustic trio Old Sound or Mikal's official music site

To sum up: we're here and there and then some but for right now, you can find us in the garden eating the goods before the squirrels do.

Can't wait to play our new songs for you.
Enjoy the last throws of Summertime. xo, Shapiro Bros.

7/17/2016 - Mountain Time

This week begins our Rocky Mountain tour with our first official show on Wednesday 7/20 at The Walnut Room (see poster below).

Just in time too! As much as we love our Kansas City weather, the mercury is inching toward summer at hellspeed. Our corn should be ripe by the time we get home and we're grabbing as many tomatoes as we can for the road. Who needs gas station candy when you've got sungold cherries?

7/1/2016 - Element Studios + Knuckleheads + Rocky Mountain Tour

NEWS! Shapiro Bros. will be entering the studio this month to record our 1st EP with the talented Joel Nanos at Element Studios. Joel engineered Mikal's last solo album "The Musical" which received local and national attention (plus top picks in the KC Star, Deli Magazine and Wednesday MidDay Medley for 2015). We're very excited to work with Joel and his ears again. We've written some new songs we want to share with you.

Thursday, July 7th finds us at Knuckleheads Gospel Lounge--one of our favorite KC venues-- and with one our favorite acts: Kasey Rausch's Country Duo with Marco Pascolini on pedal steel and guitar! Better yet, both duos will be playing classic country, honky tonk and bluegrass classics and originals. Lovers of the Naughty Pines will appreciate KR's stripped-down version (pun intended). We'll be teaming up with the Country Duo for some jamborees. Bring your two-stepping shoes!

Also on the horizon... The Rocky Mountains! We head west into the Colorado front range on July 19th to make a studio appearance at KGNU 88.5FM/1390AM in Boulder. From there, we breeze through mountain towns, breweries, listening rooms, national parks, festivals and farmer's markets before heading back to our home on the range. We even set aside a couple nights to wistfully gaze at the stars by the firelight. Maybe we'll come back with some new camp songs.

See you soon!

6/5/2016 - The Living is Easy

Shapiro Bros. are anticipating a wild, wily summer. We've already relocated a dozen possums from under our porch. 3 adults, 9 pink-nosed babies.

In related news:  The garden is huge. The melons, corn and sweet potatoes are peaking through the dirt. Dainty blooms have turned into peppers, beans, peas and tomatoes. The seeds we've planted for our Rocky Mountain and Northeast tours are bearing fruit as well. We'll be on the road in July meandering through Colorado mountain towns and dipping down into New Mexico for a night or two. September, we're booking a tour up through New England. Meanwhile, we're tending the homestead while playing some shows around the Show-Me State--two close to home at Quinton's in Waldo on June 9th and Boulevardia in the West Bottoms on June 17th. Another one down south at the Copper Run Moonshine Distillery in the Ozarks on June 18th.  We're also excited to play a very special show in the East Bottoms at Knucklehead's Gospel Lounge on July 7th. We'll be joined by Kasey Rausch's Country Duo. A night for classic country lovers, to be sure.

We tasted our first raspberries this afternoon. If they are a sign of things to come, we're living easy.

As always, check our calendar for details and don't be a stranger. Hope to see you at a show! xo, Shapiro Bros.

5/17/2016 - May Shows and Showers

All this rain is making us lazy gardeners! Good thing we've got some May shows to keep us busy including a short stint to our sister city Saint Louis! We'll be meeting up with Columbus, Ohio songwriter Eric Nassau at STL's Venice Cafe and bringing him back home to KC for a couple shows. Plus, we're playing a special house concert series called "Live in the Living Room" inside an old buggy house. At the end of the month, it's an opening set at The Westport Roots Festival. Check out our calendar for all the details. Hope to see your fine faces!

4/11/2016 - Mid America Spring Tour!

Here we go again!  Late April brings us to and through our Mid America Spring Tour!  We're thrilled to be sharing this tour with our good friend and songwriting troubadour Matt Campbell (Nashville).  He'll also be joined by the wonderful Calvin Conway (Chicago) on harp.  It's sure to be a fun run of shows!  As always, we look forward to meeting some new folks out on the road.

"Genre defying americana/folk, with fancy chords, fancier guitar work, and the fanciest harmonies. Mikal Shapiro is one of our favorite songwriters in town, and Chad Brothers vocal and instrumental accompaniment is subtle, inspired, and impeccable." - Money Wolf Music

"They aren’t a sibling act. But they are a Kansas City duet — Mikal Shapiro and Chad Brothers — who write jazzy songs and sing in the kind of keen harmonies that siblings are famous for. Their guitar interplay is equally impressive." - Kansas City Star

"Smart folk with beautiful harmonies. Fans of Neko Case and Dave Rawlings Machine will appreciate their eclectic chemistry." - Westport Roots Festival
